Susan Dorn spoke at the Green Matters conference on Thursday about current changes in LEED and at the US Green Building Council/Green Building Certification Institute. She also spoke on legal trends affecting green buildings. Dorn is a General Counsel member at the USGBC/GBCI and was featured in an article by The Common Scold. The article highlights her speech from the conference and is a good recap/indication of what issues were discussed at the Green Matters conference. Dorn outlined the USGBC’s agenda at the conference. The articles writes:
“Dorn outlined USGBC’s current status and agendas, noting that about 25% of all U.S. new construction projects are going ‘green,’ with 35,000 registered for LEED certification evaluation, and 17,000 organizations are participating in USGBC.”
Concerning the legal issues at USGBC:
“…Dorn said there is an effort underway to revamp LEED indemnity clauses, and create a new ‘Appointment of Agent’ form to identify project owners and improve indemnity for contractors and others. USGBC, she said, is making ‘one last push’ to simplify agreements and ‘put them in plain English.’”
